(Adnkronos) – Following the unrest of recent days, "the national community extends its full solidarity to law enforcement." This was stated by President Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the inauguration of the 39th Assembly of Italian Provinces, referring to the "nearly 200 injuries" among police and Carabinieri.
“An intelligent and in-depth analysis is needed, and careful surveillance must be developed to counteract violence that seems to erupt unexpectedly from unfamiliar actors.
"This latter condition raises questions worth reflecting on from various perspectives," emphasizes the President of the Republic. "The reference to the commitment to serving citizens leads to a broader perspective. It is a service that involves ensuring safe conditions that ensure the peaceful unfolding of life in our communities, in cities and towns, where any form of violence is unacceptable."
The government is reportedly considering further measures to make prevention and response to these phenomena more effective.
Following today's summit at Palazzo Chigi, a new meeting of the Council of Ministers is reportedly scheduled for tomorrow at 5:30 PM. The agenda is expected to include a decree with new measures to stem the violence, destruction, and lawlessness in cities following the unrest of recent days.
A "firm response" from the State that, while respecting freedom of expression and the right to freely hold peaceful demonstrations, combats delinquent and criminal conduct.
Today's meeting revealed that this is a "complex" phenomenon, with new aspects compared to the past, even the recent past, and with a variety of causes yet to be deciphered.
