(Adnkronos) –
A surprise exit from the ATP tournament in Shanghai. Germany's Alexander Zverev, the top seed in the draw and the next world number one given Jannik Sinner's injury, was defeated in the semifinals by 25th-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 after more than two hours of play.
The 27-year-old from Malaga will now face the winner of Rafa Jodar and Daniil Medvedev in the final. Zverev's defeat allows Sinner to maintain his position as world number one for a little longer. The challenge of overtaking him has therefore been postponed to the Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy.
