Eni is taking action regarding the fuel price cap, which has been in effect since the end of September. Other companies in the sector have followed suit, deciding not to raise fuel prices. However, fuel prices remain very high, especially for diesel-powered vehicles, whether trucks or cars.
Price Cap resulting from monthly calculations, a favor to our customers
The news came from Eni's CEO, Claudio Descalzi , on the sidelines of the company's 2026 stock results, results that saw turnover triple compared to the same period in 2025.
The revenue growth was driven by increased profits for oil and energy companies due to the Iranian conflict, as electricity, gas and petrol prices rose significantly compared to the pre-war period.
Descalzi said the decision to maintain a cap on the cost of diesel and gasoline was made to thank customers who trust their products and who deserve to have a price appropriate to the current difficulties.
Eni's Price Cap: Fears Growing Over Price
While the price cap imposed by Eni is positive for Italians, at the same time citizens are concerned about the price.
This is because if the data is revalued from month to month , the market can fluctuate and therefore, for example, petrol cannot remain at 1,99 euros per litre, just as diesel could rise to 2,30 euros per litre.
However, there's no point rushing into scenarios that aren't currently the ones consumers are facing at the pump. There's also growing curiosity about whether other competitors , who briefly managed to match the Italian giant's prices, will adjust their decision .
