Snam, Scornajenchi: "The challenge is integrating energy sources, not replacing them."

(Adnkronos) – “We must have the courage to speak clearly, because too often in public debate, energy has been reduced to a parochial battle, often simplifying something that isn't simple at all. So we prefer to talk about energy integration, because we believe the challenge isn't to replace one source with another. The real challenge is rather to build a system in which different sources, infrastructures, and technologies can integrate, simultaneously ensuring security, sustainability, and competitiveness.”

Snam CEO Agostino Scornajenchi stated this during his remarks at the celebrations for the 85th anniversary of the company's founding.

In his speech, the CEO emphasized that energy is "much more than a lever for economic competitiveness. It is a prerequisite for national security, the resilience of production systems, and a country's very ability to exercise its sovereignty."

Recalling the legacy of Enrico Mattei, Scornajenchi emphasized that "energy sovereignty is not the privilege of those who have the resources, it is the responsibility of those who have a strategy."

“In a world where energy, geopolitics, industry, and security are increasingly interconnected, there is no single technology capable of responding to a challenge of this magnitude.

They're all needed. Integration means not having to choose between safety and sustainability, industry and the environment, present and future. Instead, it means creating the conditions for these different needs to advance together.

On the operational front, "integration means continuing to invest in networks and storage. It means strengthening and diversifying supply sources and routes. It means preparing infrastructure for the transport of new molecules. It means developing hydrogen, biomethane, carbon capture and storage, and all those solutions that can contribute to decarbonization, preserving our country's industrial strength."

A focus on systemic prevention in the face of recent international tensions: "The geopolitical crises of recent years remind us daily how real this is, and they place a great responsibility on us. We cannot simply be prepared for the next crisis. We must build a system in advance capable of preventing and absorbing its effects."

Scornajenchi finally recalled the historic and operational ties with Eni, with which autonomy does not prevent them from continuing to work together on joint projects where industrial interests coincide with the country's interests. He emphasized that "building something today that will serve people we don't yet know, in the knowledge that a country that can choose its own energy is a country freer to choose its own future."
