Adnkronos (Adnkronos) – The Florence Prosecutor's Office has requested the closure of the investigation into the disappearance of Kataleya Mia Alvarez Chicclo, known as Kata, the five-year-old Peruvian girl who vanished on June 10, 2023, from the former Hotel Astor on Via Maragliano, which at the time was unlawfully occupied by over a hundred people of various nationalities. The two uncles, Abel Argenis Vasquez and Marlon Chicclo, were under investigation.
Both were charged with kidnapping for the purpose of extortion, while the two also faced other charges.
The investigation had examined several leads, including those related to conflicts over room management and possible criminal activity within the facility. The cameras had filmed Kata in the courtyard, but did not document his exit from the building.
The request, signed by Public Prosecutor Christine Von Borries and Chief Prosecutor Rosa Volpe, emphasizes that insufficient evidence has emerged to support the charges in court or to identify any other perpetrators.
Even the additional charges leveled against her uncles were found to be unsupported. More than three years after her disappearance, the case remains unsolved, and the little girl's fate remains a mystery.
